Dispute resolution

Legal services for businesses

Towards a solution, efficiently and sensibly

In a dispute, the parties disagree about their rights or obligations. Our goal is to resolve the dispute as efficiently as possible and to seek the most favourable outcome for you, whether that is a settlement, a negotiated solution or, where necessary, taking the matter to court. We will not take a case to court if it can be resolved more sensibly in another way.

What our dispute resolution services cover

  • Representing and assisting clients in litigation
  • Settlement negotiations and negotiated solutions
  • Arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution procedures
  • Contract disputes and their resolution
  • Damages claims and questions of liability
  • Disputes between shareholders and between businesses

When to get in touch

Get in touch as soon as you see a dispute developing: for example, a breach of contract, an unpaid invoice, a disagreement between shareholders, or a claim made against you. The sooner we assess the situation, the better your options remain open, and the more often the dispute can be resolved without lengthy and costly litigation. It is worth contacting us before you respond to any claims or sign anything.

We provide advice throughout Finland via remote connections. Face-to-face meetings can be arranged in the Helsinki metropolitan area and in the Turku and Tampere regions.

Frequently asked questions about disputes

Should a dispute be taken to court?

Not always. Litigation is often slow and expensive, and many disputes are resolved more quickly and affordably through settlement or negotiation. We assess your situation case by case and recommend the route that best serves your interests. Going to court is an option when it is genuinely justified.

Who pays the legal costs?

As a general rule, the losing party covers the winning party's reasonable legal costs. However, the compensation does not always cover the costs in full, and losing always carries a cost risk. For this reason, we assess the chances of success and the cost risk with you before the matter proceeds.

Does insurance cover the costs of a dispute?

Many home, business and property insurance policies include legal expenses insurance, which may cover part of the legal costs of a dispute. During the initial assessment, we check whether you have this kind of cover and whether it applies to your situation, so that the costs are clear from the outset.

When should I contact a lawyer in a dispute?

As early as possible. Contacting us early keeps your options open, can prevent the situation from escalating, and helps avoid mistakes that are difficult to correct later. It is especially important to get in touch before you respond to any claims or commit to anything in writing.
